New business division launches Senergy into facilities engineering market

Global energy services company Senergy has bolstered its portfolio of specialist services by launching a new business division focused on facilities engineering and total project delivery, Senergy Development Solutions (SDS).
SDS takes Senergy beyond its long-established and successful subsurface and wells offering by introducing a comprehensive E&P (exploration and production) capability that will open doors to a new market and new clients.
Senergy anticipates SDS will become a facilities engineering business of significant scale in its own right, creating around 30 new jobs over the next 12 months, and establishing a 100-strong workforce within the next three years. It will also complement the company’s existing subsurface and well operations business and enable Senergy to offer a unique and distinctive integrated project delivery service.
Senergy has also announced the appointment of two respected industry figures who will spearhead the growth of the new Aberdeen-headquartered division. Murray Douglas, Head of SDS and Stuart McAuley, Technical Head of SDS collectively have more than 40 years’ expertise in oil and gas facilities engineering.
Daren Wallwork, vice president, energy services North Europe and West Africa, at Senergy, said: “As part of our ambitious growth strategy, Senergy is continually evolving to meet market demands. Establishing SDS means we now have the flexibility to support clients who want a dedicated facilities engineering and project delivery service, but can also assist those looking for support throughout a wider project life cycle by offering a fully-integrated service that encompasses subsurface, facilities engineering and well operations.
“SDS not only strengthens Senergy’s services within the oil and gas sector, but opens up new opportunities in different markets. It also has the very real potential to position the company as a major player in other emerging energy sectors such as alternative energy and carbon capture and storage.
“Stuart and Murray each have an impressive track record in facilities engineering and well-established industry networks which will be key assets for the SDS team and, indeed, Senergy. They will play a pivotal role in driving forward the expansion of SDS with the same innovation and vision that has made Senergy the company it is today.”
Stuart previously founded Aberdeen-based front-end engineering consultancy, HPHT Solutions, and Murray was formerly Head of Integrated Solutions at AMEC.
Stuart, a development engineer with 14 years’ experience working for engineering and production companies including BP and Maersk, has an in-depth understanding of the key drivers in field development across a wide range of disciplines, and brings a track record of delivering high value solutions.
He said: “SDS adds another exciting new dimension to Senergy’s global business but the focus for us is the same – to deliver innovative solutions, quality service and technical excellence that adds value for our clients.”
Murray’s career spans 25 years in engineering, project and corporate management in upstream oil and gas and onshore industries worldwide, working with companies such as AMEC, BP, BG Group, Schlumberger and Shell. He has a track record in project leadership and commercial delivery across all phases of engineering, construction, installation, commissioning and operation.
Murray, who is also a fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, said: “Our strategy for SDS is to grow and consolidate the business initially in the North Sea in the UK and Norway where we will reinforce Senergy’s capabilities. Our focus will then widen to international expansion through our London office, with the ultimate aim being to establish a global reach throughout Senergy’s extensive network of hubs around the world.”
Senergy is a diversified energy services company which was established in 2005 and employs more than 500 people worldwide across its Aberdeen headquarters and through a network of global offices in the UK, Norway, the Middle East, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia and the Americas.
The company’s services encompass geosciences, reservoir engineering, geohazard assessment, marine site surveys, rig positioning, wells engineering and operations and project management, and alternative energy solutions.
